Fargo, ND - Roy Clark still has the boyish look when he gives a big jovial grin as he shows that his guitar picking is still intact and ready to take on any challenge from younger members of his band. After two hip replacements he did not show any signs of slowing down as he and his band gave a full performance to a house filled audience at the Fargo Theatre. The audience responded energetically the whole evening to let Clark know they loved him. Clark played a wide range of music ranging from the theme song of Doctor Zhivago to a closing with a stomping Orange Blossom Special.
Clark named his band “Roy's Toys” and said that he wanted to have their talent featured and they definitely delivered. The great strength of the band was featured with Richard Kennedy rocking out on keyboard “Great Balls of Fire. Kennedy has been with Clark for 32 years. Justin David performed a piece he wrote “Time is Everything.” Justin was a finalist in the “Nashville Star.” The newest member of the band Ralph Lowe showed off his talent with the guitar.
Roy Clark played his twelve string guitar with another well known hit “Yesterday.” Clark also asked everyone to “do something nice…..even just a smile and it will spread.”
Roy Clark has had his shares of recognition by taking many awards in the 70’s and 80’s. Clark has been presented The Academy of Country Music Award; Entertainer of the Year 1972 and 1973. The Country Music Association Award was presented to Clark several times in the 1970’s as Entertainer of the Year, Instrumental Group of the Year (with Buck Trent) and Instrumentalist of the Year. 1982 Grammy Award was presented to Clark and 2009 Clark was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Clark and Roy's Toys travel thousands of miles each year on bus. Clark who has been married to the same woman for 53 years said when he is traveling on the bus the band is just like family. The cohesiveness that is displayed on stage amongst all the members with Clark showed a great unity and respect with each other. Each member is strong with their ability to perform and can stand on their own giving an insight that Clark is comfortable with who he is and wants to have others share in the limelight with him.
